I've been a Guy N. Smith fan from the early to mid eighties, when I stumbled upon a used copy of Sabat 4: The Druid Connection in a charity shop somewhere in Wales. In fact, I'm literally the number one Guy N. Smith fan, because I was the first member of the Guy N. Smith Appreciation Society and Guy sent me a couple of documents to prove that. I also became a dedicated Guy N. Smith collector, because he's the quintessential collectible modern author. Every time you think you've got a grasp on how much he wrote, there's another rabbit hole to highlight a whole new category of work you haven't even heard of yet. My collection goes as deep as handwritten manuscripts of unpublished novels. When Sinister Publishing put out The Casebook of Raymond Odell, a good chunk of the stories in it came from copies of Caerlaverock, a book catalogue turned zine that is astonishingly rare. I'm only aware of other copies in the hands of Guy's daughter who inherited his literary estate. Even I'm missing one issue and I bought my stack from Guy himself back in the eighties. Anyway, he dedicated that book to me. I've read most of Guy's novels, but surprisingly not all of them. I just hadn't got round to a few older books and I didn't want to start into a bunch of newer ones until I'd re-read my way through the old ones. The trigger for starting this was that I'll never be able to have Guy sign my copy of The Casebook of Raymond Odell because he died in late 2020, as it was being published. I reviewed that at the Nameless Zine as a tribute, then dived into his back catalogue of novels, one per month.
